In addition to golf, my passions also include marketing and entrepreneurship. Today, I attended the Cupid’s Cup Business Competition at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
After playing college golf at Wake Forest University, I started my sports marketing company as an MBA student at the Dingman Center, where I now sit on the Board of Advisors. Founded by former Dean Rudy Lamone — who is one of my sponsors, the Dingman Center is one one of the top entrepreneurship centers in the country and part of the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
The annual business competition is sponsored by Maryland alumnus Kevin Plank. A former Terp football player, Plank is the driven and talented entrepreneur who is the Founder and CEO of Under Armour, the wildly successful company that originated the performance apparel market.
This year, College Media Group — which publishes a lifestyle and advice publication for students — won $17,500 and went home as the top winner. Sunscreen Mist is another venture that caught my eye, a couple of years ago. The company is the exclusive distributor of the Sun Treatment Center — a booth that safely and evenly sprays and applies FDA approved suncare products onto users. The booths are ideal for outdoor environments with a unique application for golf courses and tournaments.
Until next time, enjoy golf, America!
